Energy levels were high on Thursday lunchtime as Science Club, open to all boys in Y4 to Y7, took place in one of our Prep School laboratories. The boys examined renewable energy and worked out how it can be created, measured and used. Employing a series of bench-top wind turbines, they created enough electricity to power a light bulb, discussing the inputs and outputs and the various hurdles along the way.

Energy is hugely topical at the moment, and renewable sources are becoming ever more vital and, as such, highly appropriate to boys as they grow up.

“It’s just the best club – we do so many really cool things,” said Eben Clarke (Y6), who thinks he may want to become a physicist in the future.

The boys also went on to examine methane, how it bubbles in water and how those bubbles can catch fire and explode! It was clear that the boys thoroughly enjoy all their scientific explorations – they certainly had lots to say about last week’s lesson on making slime!
