Bedford Prep School’s Cross Country (XC) teams had a busy but successful start to the year.

Bedfordia Cross Country

At the start of January our U11, U12 and U13 XC teams headed to Lincroft school for the Bedfordia Cross Country Run.  The U11s were first off the mark in a massive field of 243 runners. The start was hectic but when the boys settled into their running they all made a fantastic effort in a fast race. Edward Dagg, who is in fact an U10, came home in first place with his twin brother James in fifth. When combined with the other runners the team ended up in fourth position overall in their age group.  The U12s were next to race and there were 191 runners in this race. Another hectic start saw the field jostling for early places before settling into their stride. Tom Deardon led the team home gaining a fifth place and, when the scores were added up, they also gained fourth position.  The U13 the race had 172 competitors, and was hard fought all the way. Tom Stephens was our first runner home and the team managed a tenth place finish overall. In the overall competition, the combined totals of all three age groups put Bedford Prep in second place!

Bedford & District XC Championships

At the end of January the boys competed in the Bedford & District XC Championships at Priory Country Park. The size of the field for this event was significantly less, which made the start less crammed!  Despite very cold temperatures, our boys did us proud once again. The U11s ran well, with Edward Dagg, once again, winning the event, and this time James came in third. Ably backed up by the rest of the team, the combined score of 98 meant a winning effort for them.  The U12s were weakened by illness and injury but all runners worked hard and the replacements were excellent in their efforts. Tom Deardon claimed third place individually and the team came fifth place overall.  The U13s worked well as a team and ran together.  Ben Guest was first over the line in 16th place, with his teammates close behind.  As a result of their close finishes they achieved third place for their age group.  In the overall competition, the combined totals for each age group earned Bedford Prep second place in the boys’ competition

Well done to all runners and we look forward to the Maidwell Chase in March.
