With the end of term and Christmas fast approaching, boys’ lessons have been interspersed with a myriad of Christmassy treats to get everyone in a festive mood.

Last week, the Christmas festivities kicked off with a pantomime for Y3 and Y4 at Bedford Girls’ School. Since then, our Prep boys have enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch in the Dining Hall – always a colourful, joyful occasion complete with Christmas jumpers, hats, crackers and festive food with all the trimmings, along with carol services over three evenings in the Chapel and even more carols in the Quarry Theatre Gardens.

We are also proud to say that Christmas is a time when boys think of others in the wider Bedford community. This year, thanks to the boys’ generosity and that of their families and our staff, we delivered 30 boxes to the All Nations Church ‘Christmas in a Box’ appeal.

Each Prep School class helped to fill our atrium with a mountain of boxes, packed to the brim with essential supplies and festive treats. Every boy donated just one or two items from a shopping list, including stuffing and mince pies. Then the boxes, after being expertly wrapped and loaded up by an army of willing Y8 monitors, were sent on their way to families in need in the Bedford community.

As ever, it is humbling to play a small part in helping local families in crisis through the ‘Christmas in a Box’ appeal. Last year, the appeal was called on to distribute even more boxes, some 860, to over 2,100 people in Bedford. A huge thank-you to everyone for their kindness and generosity.

“Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first.”

George Matthew Adams
