Before a boy leaves Bedford School, our aim is for him to have made a meaningful contribution to the local community and have played an active role in supporting charities.

Our Upper School Charities Committee have thrown themselves charity into work already this term, supporting lots of great causes, both locally and internationally. In the week leading up to exeat, our boarders got into their house kitchens to bake an array of cakes and biscuits to sell at our Macmillan coffee morning. Ivan Savelyev’s Russian honey cake, the Sanderson’s boys’ cookies and Sean Winward and Enri Zhou’s chocolate cream delight were some of the highlights amongst the myriad of bakes on offer and helped raise over £220 for this worthy cause.

Lower Sixth Formers Barnaby Williams and Olly Pritchett recently volunteered at the MS therapy centre on Barkers Lane to help with the preview of their Art Exhibition. Local artists donated work, and there were a plethora of events running over the weekend to raise funds for the MS centre. This was not only an opportunity to peruse the art work, but also an amazing event to be asked to be part of. At the time of writing, they have yet to confirm a total for their fundraising, but we know the event was a great success, with over 500 people attending and over 100 pieces sold.

Upper Sixth Formers Tom Godber and Joe Hart, Miss Chatley and Master in Charge of Charities, Mrs Vicky Marriott were lucky enough to be invited the ‘Movember sessions’; the launch for the 2022 Movember campaign. This was an inspiring and thought-provoking evening, where ambassadors shared their stories and plans for 2022, as well as learning a little more about where the monies go and the projects the fundraising supports.

With just over three weeks to go, plans are already well underway for this year’s Movember campaign, which always proves to be a hugely popular and successful fundraising and awareness campaign in school. Upper Sixth boys are already brimming with ideas and events, so keep an eye out for further details on how you can both support and get involved in supporting this incredible charity.
