While the daffodils and crocuses are popping up all around the school estate, there is one sure sign that spring has officially begun here at Bedford School, and that is our Spring Chamber Concert.

Held in the uplifting surroundings of our Music School Recital Hall, the evening brought together our wide-ranging chamber groups to perform an intimate concert of instrumental and choral music.

The concert commenced with our Double Bass Quartet who performed Misek’s Nach dem Geschmack eines Junggesellen, followed by our String Quartet who filled the room with Rodriquez’s La Cumparsita. Both a piano duet and a piano trio treated the audience to Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance Op.72 No.13 and Glinka’s Sherzo from Trio Pathetique respectively.

A Guitar Ensemble and our second string ensemble of the evening followed, before the New Jazz Collective ended the first half with an upbeat and happy piece, Cedar Blues by Cedar Walton.

The audience then enjoyed refreshments during the interval, before taking their seats for the second half, to enjoy the Cello Ensemble, a second piano trio, string quartet and our Brass Ensemble.

The concert ended on a splendid crescendo when our Chamber Orchestra gave a superb performance of Piazzolla’s La Muerte del Angel. The audience departed in high spirits after a wonderful evening of music.

If you did not get chance to watch the concert in person, you can watch the recording below.
