Our Y8 boys joined with pupils from Holden Park School in Nigeria to celebrate Nigeria Independence Day this morning in Tutor Time. The school in Lagos, which Headmaster Mr Silk visited earlier in the year, kindly invited the boys to join them online for the celebration and share in their culture.

After a warm welcome from their Headteacher, our boys listen to the pupils in Nigeria singing All Things Bright and Beautiful, a song very familiar to our boys, before watching a group of performers singing and dancing, accompanied by traditional African drumming. It was an excellent introduction to the history of Nigeria with traditional songs and music. The boys clapped along and were all highly engaged.

Deputy Headteacher Ms Heywood said, “It was really exciting to link up with Lagos this morning! It was a great experience for our Y8 boys to get an insight into how Holden Park pupils celebrate their country’s heritage and rich culture. Our boys look forward to exploring more through our ongoing collaboration with this school throughout Black History Month and beyond.”
