Boys have been making a noise for Anti-Bullying Week all this week. The boys’ focus on this important topic started in colourful style on Monday, as they donned odd socks to celebrate their uniqueness; after all, what makes us different makes us special.

Mrs Carrington gave Y3 and Y4 boys a special assembly dedicated to the topic, while boys in Y5 to Y8 used their personal development (PD) lessons to explore what bullying is and discuss whether bullying can be disguised as banter. The boys had brilliant, thoughtful discussions around various scenarios, deciding if they were ‘banter or bullying’. For example, is it upsetting others, is it hurtful, or does it focus on someone’s insecurities?

Throughout their PD lessons, the boys were encouraged to build upon their kindness, which is central to our school values, by always asking themselves, “Would I be upset if someone said it to me?”, to treat others as they would like to be treated and replace banter with kind words that could brighten someone’s day and make them feel good instead.

Boys are also invited to take part in a poetry competition for Anti-Bullying Week by writing a poem about standing up to bullying and spreading the message about anti-bullying.
