All this week, a dedicated team of Prep boys have shared their coding knowledge to teach fellow pupils and their teachers to celebrate National Coding Week.

Each lunchtime has focused on a different aspect of coding, with boys and teachers able to try their hand at everything from Scratch (ideal for beginners) to Microbit to Python (the trickiest).

Thomas Whiting (Y8), one of the pupil coding team, explained his motivation for getting involved, saying, “I like being creative, and I like helping people.” Hayden Grattan (Y8) added, “It’s cool to see what the teachers think of coding and hear their opinions.”

“I learned to make a giraffe on a Microbit in five minutes. It was so cool!”

The boys also helped to explain an algorithm—simply a sequence of instructions to be followed in order—in a fun way by joining in the #CodeWeekDance challenge and teaching it to boys and teachers. We encourage you to give it a go.

Thanks to the boys’ brilliant efforts and excellent teaching skills, even more boys and staff now know how to code algorithms and are excited by the opportunities coding offers.
