The popularity of cycling has continued to increase over the last few years, and we are aware of many OBs who enjoy the sport, both competitively and recreationally. In Ethan Vernon (07-18), we have our very own World Champion, who has been lighting up the velodrome and roads of Europe as part of the GB Track team and as a member of the Soudal Quick-Step UCI Team (read story here). Fellow OB, Simon Meadwell (79-89), founder of Fassa Cycling Products, also got in touch to inform us that he had recently competed in the UCI World Masters Cyclocross race (Vets 50-55).

Knowing we have so many Old Bedfordians with a penchant for cycling, we thought we’d like to create a cycling community. To start the wheels rolling, Andrew Murphy (75-86) and Hugh Maltby (73-83) have entered RideLondon (Sunday 28th May) and would love to know if any other OBs are taking part. In addition, Hugh is planning to participate in the Tour of Cambridgeshire (Sunday 4th June) and the Dunwich Dynamo (Saturday 1st July), the UK’s largest free cycling event, which involves an overnight ride between Hackney and the picturesque village of Dunwich, in Suffolk.

If you are planning to take part in any of these, or indeed, any other cycling events this year,  Hugh would love to hear from you. Please do get in touch at HMaltby@bedfordschool.org.uk
