Budge Rogers: A Rugby Life is the long overdue biography of Derek Prior ‘Budge’ Rogers which is due to be published from 1st September 2017. Budge attended Bedford School between 1949 and 1957. Having spoken with the author Philip Stevens and according to reviews, it is clear to see that Budge was one of rugby’s most iconic players. The world class flanker lit up rugby grounds around the world in the 1960s and 1970s with his dazzling and determined wing forward play. He captained Bedford RFC for many years, including the year they won the National Cup, toured overseas with England, the British Lions and the Barbarians. The book is full of interesting stories and amusing anecdotes from the world of top class rugby. Rogers is a true rugby great. In 1969, the Bedford man was the first rugby player to be awarded the OBE. His outstanding playing career was followed by years in administration at the highest level as both Chairman of England Selectors and President of the RFU. Budge Rogers: A Rugby Life provides a unique insight into the life and times of this electrifying wing forward and legend of the game.

Budge is his usual modest self about his achievements and the book but has kindly taken us up on our invitation and agreed to join us for lunch, at 1pm in the Café Bar on Saturday 7th October, prior to the 1st XV playing Dulwich at home. Budge will say a few words, sign books and happily take some questions.  Please note that Budge is donating all funds raised from the book to the RFU charity for injured players. Please see here for further event details.
