Tuesday 2 May, saw the return of the brilliant Young Shakespeare Company with yet another highly interactive and entertaining performance, this time bringing Hamlet to life for our Y6 boys.

Actively engaged and involved throughout the performance, the boys were more than mere observers. As the tale unfolded, the boys explored the characters’ motives, thoughts and feelings. On the ramparts of Elsinore Castle, the ghost of old King Hamlet appears through the mist to reveal a startling and extraordinary secret to his son Prince Hamlet. Should he believe what the ghost tells him? And if so, what should the young Prince do with this shocking information?

Several boys also took on the roles of individual characters in the story—quite brilliantly! And all had the opportunity to speak and enjoy Shakespeare’s words in short, accessible sections.

With fantastic fight scenes, tragic deaths, a menacing, scary ghost, romance and incredible emotional acting, it was a mesmerising afternoon that offered a wonderful insight into Shakespeare that the boys can now take into their lessons.
