Young athlete Berkley Barnicoat (Y8) has enjoyed an action-packed few months, competing in numerous sports to an incredibly high standard. The talented all-rounder has been busy swimming, running and cycling to success at both regional and national level.

Over the summer, Berkley not only medalled in the regional championships but was also crowned County Open Water Champion in his favourite sport: swimming, which in turn qualified him for the long-distance 2K at the Nationals. Then, hot on the heels of the competition, he was selected for the  East Region Triathlon team—impressively an age group up, which meant he got to race in the A-finals at the fantastic British Championship event in Sunderland. Sadly, cramp kept him out of the medals this year, but he is already looking forward to competing again next year.

In athletics, Berkley is proud to be in the top ten in the UK for his age group for both the 1,500m and 800m and is looking forward to running in the London Marathon mini marathon in the coming weeks. We are pleased to say that Berkley, who also holds full school colours for athletics and cross country, and half colours for swimming and water polo, is clearly thriving in his sporting activity (and his many music ones, too), reflected, “I still enjoy it [sport] as much as when it wasn’t so serious”, but plans to take his performance to the next level and even more seriously this year!
