Despite the weather getting its days the wrong way round this weekend, with all the sunshine on Sunday, this year’s Bedford Regatta was a great success! Bedford School Boat Club had a great day – with 21 crews racing in 11 finals, resulting in 4 wins.

There were many strong performances from the boys on both winning and losing crews. The J18 1st 8s beat Winchester College in the semis before securing a win against Abingdon. The Open Coxed 4s split into two Coxed 4s (Sivills and Liggins), beating Bedford Modern School and Kingston Grammar in the semi-finals, meaning they met in the finals, with Sivills being the final victors. The J15B crew had very close races but unfortunately were on the wrong end of 1/2 and 1/3 length losses to Norwich and Kings Chester respectively, while J15C had a tough draw, losing their races. J14A Quads had a great run, beating Hampton, Great Marlow and Sir William Borlase to win overall. In the J14 octos, J14 C and D won their first heats to face each other, with J14C going forward to win the final.

Overall, a great set of results, with great performances from all the crews. Well done boys!

A big thank you, as always, to Hugh and Rachel Maltby and the Regatta Committee, for all their planning and organisation, and also to the Friends of Bedford School Boat Club and the large number of volunteers who worked so hard to make the day such a success.
