As always, there was a great sense of excitement in the air for our rowers as they travelled to the Olympic course at Dorney, on a crisp sunny winter’s morning, for their first race of the term, the Eton Invitational Head.

The regatta took place on Saturday 21 January in near perfect conditions and gave our crews, comprising of six eights across the seniors, colts and J15s, some valuable racing experience.

All crews raced well with some promising early season performances. The BED 1 senior crew had an almost continuous side-by-side battle with Abingdon over the entire 5700m race, just coming out on top. The strongest performance of the day came from the BED 5 J15 crew who finished in third place, just behind St Paul’s and ahead of Westminster, Shiplake, Eton and Abingdon.

The seniors finished 7th and 9th. The Colts were 4th and 5th. The J15s were 3rd and 12th.

The crews look forward to returning to training on the water as they gear up for the Hampton Head in February and the Schools Head in March.
