“Drawing with colour is something I have always done, and my source material is landscape and natural forms. I am not interested in taking an accurate realistic image, but one that abstracts form, shape, pattern and texture.”

“The images I create are re-worked in the studio through monoprinting which make them more abstracted, but still with elements of what I originally drew or was interested in working from.

Layering has always been important in my work and using a reductive process to distil imagery enables me to highlight specific areas of interest. Pattern is something I enjoy using and I look for ways in which I can juxtapose different textures and surface qualities to make a picture ‘work’.

I like returning to the same place and reworking from stimuli I know well, the Oxford Botanic Gardens has been a starting point for this exhibition. The overall image I seek is that of looking through – recent work has become more complex, and my palette uses rich and vibrant colour.”
