The weather was very kind as the Ousels (Bedford School Teachers) took on Prep School parents for a game of cricket at the school on Father’s day. The teachers won the toss so Mr Loader,  confident that history was on their side, decided that the Ousels should bat first. Home advantage, a flat track and good light were the tailwinds that enabled them set a very respectable target of 210 after their 30 overs.

It was then the turn of the parents.  Their run chase began with an unbroken partnership of 70 by the openers (retirees),  so the match looked like it was going to be a classic. However, the tight bowling of Mr Guest and Mr Silk, plus a late burst from Ed wicket-keeper-cum-pace-bowler Loader at the end of the innings, meant that the parents eventually fell 28 runs short of the target.

It was a fantastic day enjoyed by everyone who played and those who cheered them on. Special thanks to the Prep Guild who, not only managed to recruit a high calibre parents’ squad, but organised the children’s activities and refreshments on the day. Roll on 2024!
