For only one team not to get on the score board against a full boarding school who can boast strength in depth is a pretty good achievement. In fact, there were many close games and a huge amount of resilience shown by all the Bedford School teams. None more so than the U16A team who came out this week with a point to prove. They moved the ball well in attack and made a number of line breaks throughout the game. Their defence stood firm against a very physical and athletic opposition and finished the game spent, but deserved winners.

Harrow must be commended for matching up at U14 level to make the games competitive. This competition brought out the best in our boys, and there were signs that they were starting to grow in confidence at A and B team level. The strength in depth continues to be a force in the U14s, and the U14Es had a cracking game against Harrow U14F, where the boys demonstrated great desire and a good level of skill. They have developed considerably over the term, mostly due to their great attitude and admirable support by the coaching team.

The U15C team marched on in unrelenting fashion, but faced stiff opposition that really tested their resolve. The boys showed an ability to step up their game when it really matters and, although threatened by the opposition, held their nerve to see out the match in positive fashion.

The 1st XV demonstrated resilience in spades on Saturday, even though they went down to a combative and athletic Harrow team who could already boast season wins against Wellington College and Kirkham. The XV scored two scintillating tries in very different fashions. The first was from a perfectly executed first phase play that was finished in style by Felix Mallalieu after an amazing run.  The second was much more of a patient team effort in the closing minutes of the game. The XV played with pace and variety and kept the ball for three minutes and, on the eleventh phase, the ball was moved swiftly to Dan Wells, who neatly finished out wide. A satisfying end and a much-improved performance.
