Max Sogan in the Remove Form has been awarded a prestigious Silver Crest Award* following the part he played in successfully managing and implementing a logistically-challenging evacuation project. Max played an integral role in a hypothetical situation, which was based on a real-life scenario involving the evacuation of a Third World country. Max and his team were only permitted a limited number of resources and were required to deploy the evacuation in the shortest, most efficient way possible. This required careful calculations and meticulous planning.
The project, along with other challenging activities, was undertaken when Max attended the RAF Whittering STEM Camp, situated on an active airbase. Max, who is a regular member of the RAF section of the school’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF), was one of just 100 young cadets (out of 600) who successfully gained a place on the week-long residential camp. Max was encouraged by his CCF Leader to apply for the camp.
Max, who will sit his GCSEs next year, has a keen interest in Maths, Engineering, Aerospace and Astrological Engineering. While he is keeping his options open for now, the RAF is certainly a future consideration for him.
* The CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people. It is the only nationally recognised accreditation scheme for STEM subject project work (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 5 to 19 year olds. Silver Awards stretch students and enrich their studies. They require around 30 hours of project work and are typically completed by 14 to 16 year olds.
