The rugby season finished with disappointment for some as all home pitches were unplayable and matches were cancelled. However, away from home the U15A team had an opportunity to reverse the result of a previous fixture against Abingdon where they lost by 14 points. The boys set about the game with true Bedford grit and put on a superb defensive display. Their attack started to click and by the end of the game they managed to run in two unanswered tries to win 12-0 and finish the season feeling extremely satisfied with their achievements and season’s progress. The B team also continued their good form to win their game by a similar scoreline. The U15 C and D teams could not finish their impressive season in the style they deserved but can certainly reflect on much season success and will have many fond memories of truly outstanding performances.
The 1st XV game reflected their season – some outstanding rugby, a few missed opportunities and a large portion of the game spent defending their own line. However, some of the attacking play was the best it had been all season. They created a huge amount of opportunity through slick ball movement and high tempo. By the end of the first half they only managed to convert two of the plentiful opportunities and were left reflecting on an unnecessarily close scoreline by half time. A sniff of hope was all Abingdon needed in the 2nd half to raise their game and apply pressure. 25 minutes of the 2nd half was an arm wrestle and, having much of the territory, it was Abingdon who broke the deadlock with a deserved try. However, Bedford regrouped and settled, a decent amount of possession and more slick play meant that Bedford opened up the opposition twice more in the closing 10 minutes. They took both of their chances well to finish the game with clear daylight between the two teams. A fitting end to a largely positive season for the XV.
