Y4 Uncover History

Y4 Uncover History

Our Y4 boys are enjoying studying the Romans as their topic this term.

This week, the boys’ fascinating journey into Roman Britain tied in with Black History Month as they discovered that Britain was a multicultural place like the rest of the Roman Empire.

The boys took on the role of amateur archaeologists to research the lives of Roman individuals, sorting facts from opinions based on archaeological finds.

During one fun session, the boys uncovered a ‘skeleton’ to explore the story of a Roman woman. Who was she? Where was she from? Did she have North African ancestors? Where did she grow up?

Piecing together the clues given by the rich and exotic artefacts around the ‘skeleton’, they reasoned that she was a high-status woman who originated from North Africa but made Britain her home during the Roman occupation.

This hands-on activity not only deepened boys’ understanding of history and culture but also enriched their critical thinking and reasoning skills.

After half-term, the boys can look forward to even more learning adventures, including a Roman day where they will dive into the world of Roman engineering and inventions that transformed everyday life in Britain. From building aqueducts to exploring arts and crafts, it will be a day full of hands-on activities, fun learning experiences and the chance to dress in Roman attire.
