World Book Day was an unforgettable adventure thanks to one of our exciting termly Curriculum Collapse Days. These special days give our boys the chance to step away from their usual timetable and immerse themselves in a carousel of creative, hands‑on activities — and this one was all about celebrating the power of reading.
From the very start of the day, the buzz around school was unmistakable. A whole‑school reading session to celebrate the National Year of Reading set the tone, with boys of all ages diving into stories and proving, once again, that at Bedford Prep, reading isn’t just important — it’s seriously cool.
The excitement continued with high‑energy author talks from Olaf Falafel and Steve Skidmore, who had the boys laughing, thinking and feeling inspired to create stories of their own. The day also took an unexpected turn into the world of music as boys explored the history of rap before crafting their own original raps, remixing classics such as The Lorax and The Three Little Pigs.
And of course, no World Book Day would be complete without the costumes. As ever, each class impressed with imaginative, colourful and character‑filled outfits that brought favourite stories and beloved heroes to life. The playground and classrooms were alive with wizards, adventurers, secret agents, dinosaurs, Mr Men and so much more.
By the end of the day, it was clear that this Curriculum Collapse Day had done exactly what it set out to do: open doors, spark imaginations and remind boys that stories are powerful — and reading is something to be proud of.
“At Bedford Prep, we don’t just teach reading.
We celebrate it. We live it. And our boys lead the way.”Ian Silk, Headmaster
