Fantastical stories and tales came to life in the Prep School on Thursday 5 March as fabulous fictional characters (aka our boys) appeared to spill from the pages of their books and take up residence. It could only be World Book Day!

As ever, it proved a wonderful celebration of books and reading, with every tutor group vying to win the costume prize. This year, the honours went to 3H (The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith), KL (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl) and 8F (The Mr Men and Little Miss books by Roger Hargreaves). During the day the boys were also excited to meet author Pete J Murray and find out about his latest book: Poppy Warrior, an action-packed, thrilling story on a WW1 theme. The boys also enjoyed a staff shelfie competition and pondered some of the best ever book quotes worn on our teachers’ t-shirts.

Not to be outdone, their teachers also joined in the day, dressing up as their favourite characters too! Their costumes, especially Mr Silk’s, were quite delumptious, proposterous and hopscotchy*!

*Roald Dahl Glossary
Delumptious = Delicious
Propsposterous = It’s almost preposterous, but with the wrong vowels and extra letters.
Hopscotchy = Cheerful
