Careers Guidance

Upper School Academic Life

The award-winning careers programme at Bedford School stands out for both its breadth and depth.

Guiding every boy beyond Bedford

Our progressive programme spans every year group, becoming increasingly personalised towards the top of the school. By the time boys reach Year 10, the advice given is entirely individual, helping them to make the right choices as they progress towards their move ‘Beyond Bedford’.

Every year has a different focus and carefully defined curriculum, appropriate to that age-group and fully embedded into academic life. From Year 9, boys are introduced to Unifrog, an integrated careers platform which tracks the acquisition of key employability skills. This enables all staff to maintain a clear overview of each boy’s involvement in school life and to ensure he makes the most of the rich opportunities available to him at every stage of his school journey.

Ambition Unlocked

Across the year groups, boys take part in group workshops to help with their options planning, we offer Morrisby profiling, individual interviews with professional careers coaches and regular external speakers.

Our Old Bedfordians Club—made up of several thousand former pupils, along with many past and current parents—plays a valuable role in supporting the boys’ careers education. Through regular contact and events, boys benefit from mentoring, networking opportunities and work experience. The Old Bedfordians Club online careers fair, held across three evenings with over 60 experts, helps boys explore career paths, gain insights and build confidence for the future.

The success of the programme lies in the thorough grounding each boy receives, which then permits a narrowing of focus onto the right choices for him.
