The Sixth Form is the final stage of a boy’s journey through Bedford School, and it is a wonderfully rewarding and challenging time. During these two key years, boys take on responsibility and grow in independence: both of which they relish.

We believe wholeheartedly in providing choice at this critical stage of a boy’s academic career. To this end, we offer two academic routes: A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Both routes prepare boys for admission into some of the best universities in the world. Our outstanding UCAS provision has consistently supported over 75% of our annual cohort to gain entry into Russell Group universities (top 25 in the UK); further to this, boys can also be prepared for entry into specialist music and art institutions, as well as top universities outside of the UK. Whatever their ambition for the ‘next step’, outstanding support is always on hand.

Academic extension outside of the classroom is provided through an extensive programme of visiting speakers, clubs, societies and educational trips and tours. Feeding the boys curiosity is one of our main aims, and the breadth of opportunity to do so is readily available.

There are, of course, all the opportunities to be involved in sport, music, drama and other creative activities that are open to boys in other years. However, in the Sixth Form, boys are expected to lead in these areas. We actively encourage Sixth Form boys to show initiative and leadership and we are keen to support boy-led ideas in these extra-curricular areas of school life.

We are proud that our boys leave prepared for university and life beyond Bedford as confident young men; empowered, articulate and resilient, equipped to thrive and lead.
