The Bedford School Music Department aims to create an outstanding and vibrant musical experience for all boys at every level in the school
Groups range from First Orchestra to Samba Band and from Dance Band to Chapel Choir. In terms of ensemble playing, we cater for many levels of proficiency and indeed some musical activities require no previous experience, for example, the House Singing Competition and Choral Society.
Many extra-curricular musical events take place each term; these are listed in the Music Society Calendar and What’s On Guide.
Concerts are given by boys, staff and musicians from outside the school and there are regular music competitions which all instrumentalists and singers are encouraged to enter. All boys are welcome to attend musical events and most are free.
The Adrian Boult Society is a Sixth Form music society for all those interested in music. There are several lectures a year given by outside speakers who are often eminent musicians in their field. Recent examples of lectures include an introduction to jazz improvisation (featuring a live jazz trio) and a talk on the recording industry.
The Music department organises visits to musical events, for example, most recently to a Britten opera and the musical, The Lion King.
