This lecture will introduce you to Polish theatre director
Jerzy Grotowski, unmasking him in the process, challenging some assumptions and
revealing his ongoing value and legacy. The unmasking will take place in a
lively lecture using films and images.

Paul Allain is
Professor of Theatre and Performance and Associate Dean for Research at the
University of Kent. He has published several books, DVDs and articles on
theatre and actor training as both author and editor, with a particular focus
on contemporary Polish theatre. From 2006-9 he led the AHRC-funded British
Grotowski Project, which culminated in an international conference and a series
of books. In 2009 he received an award for services to Polish culture from the
Polish government.
