In a first for any English school, Bedford School pupils
enjoyed the opportunity to use a state-of-the-art desktop Scanning Electron
Microscope in their very own laboratories on Thursday 17 March 2016.

As part of National Science week, the school welcomed Dr
Charlie Worthy, Lambda Photometrics, to demonstrate the Scanning Electron
Microscope (SEM) and explain how it works to the assembled pupils which also
included a number of girls from our sister school, Bedford Girls’ School. 

It was a wonderful chance for the pupils to use the
microscope to view a number of samples, all impressively detailed, such as the
ants leg below.
