The U11A played their best hockey of the season to progress through to the final of the Regional Hockey Finals for East England, winning their group with 4 wins and a score draw and knocking out the East of England IAPS Winners from last week. Given that the U11s had not won a match before the festival, and have struggled to convert chances in matches so far, this scenario did not seem likely at the start of the day. But, as the tournament evolved, so did the team’s ability and confidence to stretch sides when in possession. The final two group matches showed that the U11A are indeed a very decent hockey outfit when they find and use space. They are even more dangerous when they put pace on the ball. The final was the team’s fourth consecutive match without a break and the tiredness was an obvious and costly factor in the end. Congratulations however to St Faiths for their win but I hope all this squad take heart from their performances and build on this in the last two remaining matches this term.
