Following a rigorous round of national auditions, we are delighted to hear that Remove Former Daniel Hutchins has been offered a place to play trumpet in the National Youth Concert Band (NYCB). The prestigious residential course will take place over Easter 2020 at Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge.

The NYCB is the newest national level youth ensemble and is an exciting and challenging group for wind, brass and percussion players aged 12 to 18 years. The course will cover a wide-ranging repertoire including pieces by contemporary composers Kenneth Hesketh, Samuel Hazo and Eric Whitacre and a world premiere by Anne Chmelewsky.

Daniel, who takes great inspiration from his Grandad who plays the cornet in the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, told us, “This is an exciting new opportunity to develop my playing at a very high standard and is something I am very excited about.”

Daniel also plays piano at Grade 4 level as well as the cornet and sings in our Chapel Choir.
