Three promising playwrights from Bedford School are amongst
the 15 applicants selected for the Quarry Theatre New Writers Project.

Fifth Former Conor Hilliard, Mr Jonathan Hooley (Head of
Prep Drama) and Mr Andrew Grimshaw (English) all impressed the judges with
their creative writing talents to progress to the next stage of this exciting,
joint initiative launched by our very own Quarry Theatre and
multi-award-winning company Papatango.

“It is wonderful to see not one but three Bedford School
writers selected to take part in this exciting new initiative.  That all
three were selected by the judges is clear testament to the wonderful
creativity in the school from both staff and students.  They, along with
all the aspiring writers selected, now have a superb opportunity to benefit from Papatango’s
unparalleled expertise – their support, guidance and encouragement has helped
launch some of the best new talent in playwriting.”
– Jules Crossley, Director of
Theatre, The Quarry Theatre at St. Luke’s

Professional playwriting workshops run by Papatango’s artistic director and founder
George Turvey and producer Chris Foxon
, between now and June, will guide
the Bedford writers to draft new plays; with the best script receiving a
professionally staged reading later this summer.

With a history of uncovering the most brilliant new
playwrights, who knows, we could be looking at a BAFTA-winning playwright from
Bedford School very soon!
