If you are fed up with your usual radio station and need some fresh new wit and repartee, then look no further than the Bedford School Ousel Pod, which was launched on YouTube over the Christmas holidays.

The podcast was written and recorded by a group of Fourth Formers who were previously at the helm of the Prep School’s Eagle Radio. The boys took their podcast idea to Teacher of Music, Mr Thom Rooke, who guided the boys and helped them to air their first episode. Mr Rooke told us, “The boys have taken a good initiative in Eagle Radio, formed a new team, refreshed their ideas and produced a funny, informative and entertaining podcast to round off the term.”

The boys have skilfully managed to strike the right levels of humour and seriousness throughout, with reviews on the school’s latest drama productions including the poignant Echoes from the Trenches which commemorated the centenary of the Great War. The boys’ interview with Lower Sixth Former, Jamie Williams, about his recent portrayal of Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps is not to be missed!

From light-hearted to considerate, they also interview President of the Bedford School Music Society, Silas Sanders, to ask why his recent Out of Isolation night of music was so important to him at a personal level.

They talk about House events, Movember, Around the World in 80 Days, Carol services – even Brexit gets a mention!

It is well worth a listen to and the boys hope to be able to record regular episodes to provide a termly round-up of school life from the boys’ perspective. You can listen to Ousel Podcast Episode 1 here.

Boys in the pod are Fourth Formers Will Roberts, Charlie Blythman, Tom Hayward, Murray Silk, Daniel Hutchins, Arav Kirtane, Nat Lord, Max Pearson, Sam Wells, Theo Artus, Robert Parrish and Remove Former Freddie McNiff.
