Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by Hugh Wheeler from the adaptation by Christopher Bond
Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick
The dark, haunting tale of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The cast of performers from Bedford School and Bedford Girls’ School present Sondheim’s take on this iconic story. Although set in its traditional Victorian era, there are some modern twists. The audience themselves will be located in Bedlam with the tragic Johanna. Sweeney, her father, has returned from a life sentence in Botany Bay to take revenge on the judge who ruined his family’s life.
This exciting musical will take the audience on a thrilling, but terrifying journey – not for the faint-hearted. Beware – the immersive nature of this production will have you on the edge of your seat!
‘There’s a hole in the world like a great black pit and the vermin of the world inhabit it and its morals aren’t worth what a pig could spit and it goes by the name of London.’
