Bedford Head at the weekend saw the rowing season kick off with a fantastic start, thanks to the dedication and hard work the boys have put in over the winter. The event provided valuable race experience, with over 100 boys representing the school on a cold, wet February Sunday.
Utilising our new indoor Rowing Performance Centre and spending as much time outside on the water as possible, the boys have shown remarkable commitment and progress which clearly showed as the boys battled out their races.
The Boat Club raced 12 eights at the event, showcasing their skills and determination. The categories included 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Colts A, B, J15 A, B, C, and J14 A, B, C.
Senior highlights
- 1st VIII won the event overall, with the 2nd VIII finishing second, just ahead of the Star Rowing Club 1st VIII, which included some Old Bedfordians (OBs) and a current Bedford School teacher, Mr Palmer.
- Colts A finished fourth overall, winning the J16 category and outperforming several Oxbridge college 1st crews.
- 3rd VIII finished 10th overall, just two seconds shy of winning their category.
After the eights races, the senior squad broke down into smaller boats and continued their winning streak by securing victories in the coxless fours, coxed fours and quads.
Junior Highlights
- J15s achieved 1st, 3rd and 6th places in the J15 eights, ahead of King’s Ely and Norwich.
- J14s, participating in their first event, finished 2nd, 7th and 10th in their category.
The event highlighted the boys’ hard work and dedication but also set a positive tone for the season ahead. While tougher races are on the horizon, this strong start is a testament to the boys’ efforts and the excellent support from our coaching staff.
