Last term, 78 trivia-minded boys from across all year groups entered into a ‘University Challenge’ style school quiz answering questions on a broad array of subjects from Current Affairs to Ancient and Modern History, Science to Music and Art to Literature.

As well as having lots of fun along the way, there was a serious point – the top performing boys from across all year groups were then invited to form two school teams; an A and B team, to compete in the National Schools General Knowledge Challenge. With their debut fixture against The Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ scheduled for 23 January, they only had two months to practice.

The boys gave a great performance against the Habs’ Boys, who are renowned for being top of their game when it comes to general knowledge quizzes. Our A team, in particular, showed they are quite a force, winning against the Hab’s B team and only narrowly losing to Hab’s A team. Altogether, the Bedford School boys won two out of four matches.

Teacher of Classics, Dr Gavin McCormick, who has been leading the boys, told us, “The boys have been thoroughly enjoying their quizzing over recent weeks and their excellent answers in both practice sessions and the Hab’s fixture bode very well for the future. Congratulations to all who have been taking part.”

We wish the boys luck for their next fixture.

The teams were made up from the following boys:

Murray Silk – Fourth Form
Dylan Swain – Remove Form
Oscar Calvert – Remove Form
Nathanael Hylton – Remove Form
Antonio Reale – Fifth Form
Emmanuel Adeyemi-Abere – Lower Sixth Form
Oscar Hill – Lower Sixth Form
Oscar Hudson – Lower Sixth
