A group of Fifth Form Science students enjoyed a Physics lessons of a different kind when they spent the afternoon at the Cavendish Laboratories in Cambridge on Thursday 21 March.

Travelling to Cambridge on the X5 bus, first stop was at Fitzwilliam College where the boys, along with their teacher Mr Palmer and Dr Palmer, were met by students at the college. After spending some time marvelling in the tranquillity of the stunning gardens, they enjoyed a tour of the library, dining halls and common rooms.

After a pleasant stroll to the Cavendish Laboratories, the boys enjoyed an excellent speech on misconceptions regarding university with a focus on fees and student loans, which gave them an insight into the finance system. Lunch was followed with a lecture on optics and light rays and how they refracted in certain ways. The boys then attempted some questions in a workshop and ended up making their own telescope.
