We are delighted that Old Bedfordian David Fletcher has kindly agreed to be our guest speaker at the Annual Dinner on Saturday 26th November 2016. This will be a particularly special day as it is the focus for our celebrations to mark the 125th Anniversary of the official formation of the Old Bedfordians Club.

David was at the School from 1958 to 1969, as were his two younger brothers, Guy and Mark. Many will remember Guy who taught at the School for 37 years up to his sad death in 2013. Their father, Murray, was also an Old Bedfordian and indeed came back to the School after his time in the Army and taught French, along with a fair amount of rugger coaching! Many OBs will also have fond memories of their time in Redburn House when Murray and Pauline were their House Parents, and where the three boys spent much of their childhood years. In retirement Murray also served as President of the Old Bedfordians Club from 1989 to 1996. It is interesting to note that in 1991 Guy Fletcher coached an unbeaten 1st XV, and that this was the first time the 1st XV went a full season without losing since Murray Fletcher, their father, had played in the 1941 1st XV some fifty years earlier.

After Bedford School David had a brief dalliance with Higher Education and then worked for a number of years for the local auctioneers, Peacocks. Through this he quickly developed an interest in design and art, and in particular a lifelong passion for antiques and English furniture. He is an experienced independent Fine Arts and Chattels valuer and auctioneer. He has also worked for Phillips (now Bonhams), the London based firm of international fine art auctioneers. In recent years David has appeared on BBC TV’s Flog It! and his face will be familiar to viewers of this popular programme. He also regularly appears on BBC Three Counties Radio and gives talks to a large variety of organisations.

David and his wife Kate are great supporters of the Old Bedfordians Club and School. With so many connections over several decades we can think of nobody better to help us celebrate the heritage of the Club and School in this important anniversary year. We are sure that we are in for an informative and entertaining evening.

We hope that you will join us. Find more information and book your place online here.
