40 boys and 5 teachers from Bedford School slept rough for
the night on Thursday 9 February 2017 to raise awareness of homelessness and vital funds for YMCA Bedfordshire.

Armed with just
sleeping bags and cardboard boxes, the boys and staff set up a temporary homeless
city outside the school.  It proved a very cold night for the boys who
braved not only sub-zero temperatures but also snow!

The teacher in
charge of the ‘Sleep Easy’ event, Miss Alice Swallow, told us, “Despite the
cold the boys were brilliant.  They remained in good spirts throughout the
night and raised an amazing £1,140 (to date), which will go to help change
the lives of vulnerable young people in Bedfordshire.”

The school has supported the YMCA’s Sleep Easy campaign for
the last four years, organising their own Sleep Easy for the last three.
Each year the event has grown and grown, with more boys getting involved. Miss
Swallow explained, “The boys decided to run their own event again this year to help raise awareness of homelessness amongst
their fellow students and the wider community, and to fundraise to support the
great work that the YMCA does in Bedfordshire.”
