At Bedford, wellbeing comes first. Whether you are a boarder or a day boy, you will be part of a close-knit community where people know you, support you, and help you thrive—every single day.

Kindness and Community

Kindness is central to life at Bedford. You will be encouraged to treat others with respect, support your peers, and build positive relationships across the school. Inclusion and allyship matter here, and you will learn how to be a good friend, teammate and leader. While some might expect a boys’ school to feel intense or overly competitive, Bedford is known for being relaxed, friendly and collaborative—a place where you can be yourself.

Looking After your Health

Our on-site medical centre is staffed by a team of five nurses who are kind, professional and easy to talk to. They look after your physical, emotional and social wellbeing, and there is also a sports therapist/physiotherapist available twice a week during term time.

If you ever feel overwhelmed or need someone to talk to, our counselling service is open five days a week. You can speak to a counsellor in complete confidence, and they are there to help with anything that is on your mind. If longer-term support is needed, your parents can also be seen and referred to counsellors in their local area—so everyone involved in your care feels supported.

Space to Reflect

The Chapel is a quiet, inclusive space at the heart of school life. You will go there for weekly assemblies, and it is open for reflection, services and support. Rooted in the Christian tradition but welcoming to all faiths and none, the Chapel is a place where everyone belongs. The Chaplain is always available if you need someone to talk to.

Keeping Families Connected

While you are supported every day at school, Bedford also works closely with your parents to make sure they feel informed and involved. Our Parent Partnership Programme runs alongside the PSHE (Citizenship) curriculum and includes talks, workshops and resources throughout the year. It helps your family understand what you are learning and how best to support you.

Further information about the Parent Partnership can be found on the link below.

Fuel for the Day

Mealtimes are a chance to relax, refuel and catch up with friends. Staff often join you for meals, and the dining hall is a lively, welcoming space with plenty of choice. We know food matters—especially in Sixth Form—so you will find healthy, tasty options that keep you going, whether you are in lessons, on the pitch or winding down in the evening. Dietary requirements are well catered for, and themed nights and weekend brunches are always popular with boarders.
