Careers and Higher Education
Our award-winning careers programme will work with you to help you explore your options and build a clear path towards life beyond school.
Planning What Comes Next
Planning your next steps is a key part of Sixth Form life. Our future-focused careers programme connects you with professionals, mentors and real opportunities—so you can start shaping what comes next.
The team is larger than at most schools, which means you will receive one-to-one support tailored to your goals.

Shaping Your Journey
We will work closely with you across both years of the Sixth Form to help you research your options and identify the right path for you.
The opportunities are broad, but our experienced team will help you narrow down your choices and set goals that are both ambitious and realistic. Along the way, you will build key skills in areas such as networking, interviewing and preparing for assessment days.
You will also hear from inspiring speakers and mentors, many of them Old Bedfordians, who will share their experiences and offer valuable insight as you explore your next steps.
Support for Every Pathway
Whether you are applying through UCAS, aiming for a degree apprenticeship, planning to study overseas, or targeting the most competitive universities and courses, you will receive expert guidance through dedicated strands of the programme.
Applicants for medicine, dentistry and Oxbridge receive targeted support through a specialist strand, delivered in collaboration with the Floreat academic enrichment initiative.
If you are interested in overseas universities, we will guide you through the process, starting with a roadshow where international institutions visit Bedford. And if you are considering a Degree Apprenticeship, you will benefit from a specialised programme tailored to that pathway. Both programmes include regular tutorials, a weekly newsletter, external input from speakers and mentors as well as individual interviews, counselling and review sessions.
Learning from Our Community
Our Old Bedfordian network, along with current and former parents, plays a key role in the careers programme. They regularly contribute as speakers and mentors, and take part in our annual online Careers Convention where you will have the chance to interact with over sixty professionals across a wide range of industries – from investment banking and cyber security to aviation, law, engineering and medicine.
Support That Goes Further
Our careers support extends beyond the Sixth Form. Through our Parent Partnership, we help families prepare for the next steps too. And once you leave Bedford, the Old Bedfordians Club offers workshops and guidance to help young OBs make strong first impressions and take confident steps into the world of work.
Whatever your ambitions, our careers programme will give you the clarity, confidence and connections to take your next steps with purpose.
