It is time for Lower Sixth Former Peter Barrington to polish his dancing shoes and warm up his vocal chords ready for joining the esteemed National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) company this summer.

Peter, who is a familiar face on the stage here at Bedford School, has amassed quite a repertoire with unforgettable performances including playing the part of the compère in Red Shoes and perhaps most recently as Professor Pilot in John Buchan’s The 39 Steps.

Already a member of the National Youth Theatre (NYT), Peter was delighted to receive the invite to join the NYMT after a round of national auditions which saw him dance, sing and act. As a self-confessed ‘unnatural dancer’, he was a little daunted by the prospect of dancing in front of fellow applicants, however he delighted in the song, choosing to sing It’s Hard to Speed My Heart from the musical Parade – a particular favourite of his. In the acting element, he was required to work in a pair and also in a group to perform a piece of physical theatre telling the story of Billy Goats Gruff.

The NYMT was so impressed with Peter’s talents that he has been invited to audition for three of their six upcoming shows, including Henrietta, where he will join other members of the cast at a summer camp to prepare for the show.

Peter starts the Upper Sixth with a string of responsibilities in the Creative Arts Department. He will take on the roles of joint Vice President of the Drama Society, joint Vice President of the English Society and Head of the New Music Society – all three areas are great passions of his. He is studying Music Tech, Drama and English Literature at A-Level, and plays Piano, Guitar and sings at Grade 8 level.
