The Bedford School 1st VII enjoyed a great start in their 2016 sevens campaign; beating Tonbridge in the final of the Shiplake Sevens tournament by 26 points to 10.
The squad got off to a nervy start against Abingdon, in a game riddled with errors, before eventually winning 21-5. However, the boys regrouped well and began to play with better shape and conviction, and duly beat Oakham by 40 points to nil to take them into the semi-final of the cup.
They produced some very good sevens against a well organised Seaford College to win 29-19 and set up a final against Tonbridge. The 1st VII certainly saved their best performance for the final and, aside from a couple of uneasy moments, came out comfortable winners.
The entire squad had a major role in each match demonstrating their strength in depth; highly important for a successful sevens campaign.
