Bedford School’s rugby teams had a great start to the term
with eight victories in their first block fixture of the season.

A
strange turn in the weather was not enough to dampen the spirits of the Bedford
School Rugby Club on its first fixture of the season against Uppingham.  There was a real buzz about the place, which
was certainly helped by the large number of OBs in support.  The mood among the OBs was good having just
competed in the OB Sevens, which was unsurprisingly gentlemanly but fiercely
competitive.

The 1st
XV ran out comfortable winners, although it didn’t look like it was going to be
that way after the first 10 minutes.
However, they found their composure and controlled the game for the
remaining 60 minutes.  Dingwall controlled
the game well at 10 and a brace of tries from both Hussey and Kight helped
Bedford win the game by 47 points to 3.
The 2nd XV started the way the 1st XV started but
couldn’t find the composure they needed to keep possession and score
points.  A team with so much promise left
scratching their heads after a loss.  The
3rd and 4th XV both won close games and Aaron Borland
demonstrated a couple of moments of brilliance to help the 3rd XV
ease them to their win.  The 5th
XV put up a brave fight against a well organised opposition but have the
opportunity get one back as they face them again this Saturday.

The Under 16 A XV produced a determined
and promising display against a physical and direct Uppingham side. Sam Dalton
superbly finished two sweeping moves in the first half to give a 12-0 interval
advantage (Felix Mallalieu with the extra 2 points) and a Daniil Dulgeru second
half score from a set-piece move, was enough to secure a deserved 17-7
win.  The U16 B and C teams also both
produced good wins away from home and performances that hopefully bode well for
the season.

The U15 saw no points scored for any of
the losing teams.  Unfortunately, the
U15A team were one of the losing teams but this certainly did not mean that the
game was one-way traffic.  They will look
to build on the positive areas as well as making a few corrections in training
this week as they prepare to face Bromsgrove School.  Better news for the U15 B and C teams as they
were the teams to score all the points in the games.  After scoring three tries in 30 minutes for
the C team it was clear that Lucas Tyre was better off on the B team.  After coming on for the B team he immediately
scored a try.

The U14s had training/trial matches and
we are all excited by what they will offer in the fixture against Bromsgrove
next week.
