The fixtures last week started on Tuesday and by Saturday evening the Rugby Club had played against seven different schools.

The U14C team continued their good form by managing to contain a Mark Rutherford team with some athletic individuals.  The 3rd XV were in similar form coming into their fixture but were narrowly beaten by Princethorpe College.  However, the result does not tell the whole story as it was Princethorpe College’s 1st XV, a demonstration of how strong this team have been all year.

The spoils were shared against Northampton School for Boys at A team level with the 1st XV and U15A teams winning their matches.  Although, the U16A team lost their game, they played some outstanding rugby and Will Barnes was highlighted in particular for his positive contributions and leadership throughout the game.  The U14 B team witnessed a truly remarkable event, Henry Warren lined up 11 conversions and nailed all of them, with only one being in front of the posts.  I hope he can take this form into the Carter Place Kicking Cup on Tuesday 6 December.

However, the highest accolade from the 18 fixtures must go to the 5th XV.  They travelled to Uppingham searching for their first win of the season.  The task made more difficult by the fact that they had previously lost twice to Uppingham this season.  Unaffected by the burden of the history book, the boys played with confidence and commitment resulting in a truly epic performance and a thoroughly deserved victory.
