Harrow proved how strong they are at 1st XV level and at U16 this weekend with comfortable and deserved victories. None of the aforementioned Bedford sides could cope with the power of the opposition as they regularly broke the gain line with strong ball carries. However, the teams demonstrated great character to fight to the end.
Although there was disappointment, the weekend also witnessed two of the Rugby Club’s performances of the season. The 2nd XV produced a brilliantly coherent and committed performance to beat their opposition and the 4th XV snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to prevent the opposition emulating the Harrow 1st XV achievement of an unbeaten season.
The U15s had an impressive full complement of victories. The U15A’s positive and expansive attack shape really has started to bear fruit as the boys are now clicking and they have started to gather momentum. The U15D team had to dig deep to grind out their victory and continue their impressive run of success.
The U14D team saw their points against for the season, more than double against Harrow with the opposition scoring seven points! Comfortable winners again and only Abingdon can now prevent them from chalking up a perfect season. The U14E team had an epic battle with their opposition to end up just losing out by 2 points, what a fine season they have had. With Harrow U14A team pulling out of the fixture, some local schools stepped up and put together a ‘Barbarians’ style team, consisting of many of the best players in the area. Bedford were really under pressure and put together a tremendous performance of high quality, which kept the spectators very well entertained. Our sincerest thanks must go to the teachers at Samuel Whitbread Academy who put together the team that also produced some quite brilliant play in true Barbarians style.
