The school’s rugby teams achieved a remarkable clean sweep of victories at the weekend, against Rugby School, solidifying the boys’ fond nickname of ‘The Fortress’. However, beyond the impressive wins, it was the core values of integrity and sportsmanship displayed by the boys from both schools that truly stood out.
Every player gave their best effort, embodying humility in both victory and defeat. Celebrating small successes, demonstrating resilience and recognising good play by the opposition were the hallmarks of the day, each match concluding with enthusiastic cheers for the opposition, handshakes and moments of reflection with friends and families. The value of rugby at school cannot be easily measured, but it can be witnessed and admired.
1st XV: A Performance to Build On

The 1st XV team owed themselves an improved performance, and they delivered in style. From the first kick-off, their commitment was evident. Within 50 seconds, Rupert Cracknell scored, thanks to the unselfish play of Max Innes. This act epitomised the match’s tone, with the boys giving their best for each other. Bedford’s intensity in attack and defence led to 33 unanswered points with five minutes left. Although Rugby School managed to score in the final moments, Bedford’s performance was satisfying and promising for future games.
Senior Squads and U16 A: Strength and Resilience
The senior squads showcased their depth with impressive victories, including a clean sheet by the 4th XV. The U16 A match was a nail-biter, with Bedford scoring in the last moments to secure a win, demonstrating their resolve and determination.
U14s: Setting the Benchmark
The U14s had an exciting start to their campaign, traveling to historic Rugby School for their first block fixture in the Upper School. They set a strong benchmark for the rest of the season, showing promise and potential.
