Following the outstandingly generous legacy left to us by Professor John Roach MA PhD (31-38), we are delighted to announce that we will now be able to offer Roach Scholarships. This Scholarship fund in his name will be aimed at providing academically talented boys in the Lower Sixth with the opportunity to benefit from a Bedford School education. Thanks to John, it will now be possible for us to reach out to outstanding pupils who would otherwise not be able to attend the School.
Born in 1920 and having served in the Indian Army, John will be warmly remembered for his acute judgement, outstanding scholarship and generosity of spirit. As a Life Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Sheffield, he had devoted much of his life to the study of the History of Education, making a significant contribution to the subject and was a much respected and eminent historian.
