Remembrance Service | Lest We Forget

Remembrance Service | Lest We Forget

On Sunday 9th November, OBs, past parents, current parents, along with the wider members of our community joined us for the Chapel Service at the school to remember the fallen. The sermon given in the chapel was by former Bedford School Chaplin, Neil McCleery (18-24).

Following the service, a wreath was laid outside the Memorial Hall by Brigadier Mark Beynon MBE (85-93) (late Royal Welsh).

Also laying an additional wreath in the chapel was Andrew Allum whose Great Uncle William H Allum (1912-1914) of the West Yorkshire Regiment, was killed on the Somme in 1916 aged 18. He left Bedford School aged only 16 and immediately joined up, having to lie about his age at that time.  Andrew’s Grandfather, Lt C E Allum (1911-1912) was in the Cheshire Regiment and survived the war and was awarded an MC and MiD.

Each ceremony, plaque, and moment of reflection serves as a bridge to their legacy, reminding us of the profound cost of peace and liberty.

May we always remember them.
