Despite very wet weather and the 1st VIII losing to Hampton School early in the day, parents, OBs and friends of the School rallied to enjoy a good day at Henley Royal Regatta on Wednesday 29th June. One OB had even travelled from NSW, to escape the Australian Winter! On the river the boys put in a tremendous effort and fought hard over all 2112 metres of the course in what was their closest race with Hampton of the season. In the end they lost by just over one length with Hampton’s time being 7 minutes and 22 seconds.

Guests were determined to not allow this to dampen their spirits and enjoyed catching up at the School and OB Reception, and then at the picnic kindly organised by the Friends of Bedford School Boat Club (FOBSBC). It was a special day for the Vice Master, Colin Baker and his wife Jackie, who is in his final week of term before retirement represented the Head Master. Despite not being a ‘Wet Bob’ he said that it was a fantastic day and a lovely way to catch up with so many dear friends from throughout his 37 year teaching career at Bedford. A number of junior boys also enjoyed their trip to Henley and hopefully this experience gave them something to aspire to in future years.

Watch the race again here.
