Boarding at Eagle House
Life in Eagle House is full of energy, structure and support. It is an ideal environment for boys aged 9 to 13 to grow in confidence and independence.
Each day follows a clear rhythm that helps boys feel settled and secure. After lessons, they dive into a rich mix of co-curricular activities, from swimming and tennis to drama, coding and more. It is all part of what makes boarding here so rewarding.
Evenings have a relaxed, homely feel. Boys enjoy games, catch up on prep (homework) and have time to unwind with friends. Weekends bring even more to look forward to. After Saturday lessons (for boys in Year 6 and above), boys take part in exciting activities and trips, such as go‑karting, climbing and Ninja Warrior, which are firm favourites.
There is always something to enjoy, whether it is time in the cosy common room, the well-stocked games room, or making the most of the school’s outstanding sports facilities. Downtime is often spent outdoors, in our glorious 50 acres of grounds or simply playing with friends.
Eagle House sits at the heart of our Prep School campus, a welcoming, purpose-built space where boys can relax, play and grow. With en-suite rooms, study areas and plenty of recreational spaces, including a games room, music room and access to the all-weather pitch, boys enjoy a balanced and enriching boarding experience.
We offer a gentle and thoughtful introduction to boarding, striking just the right balance between independence and support. Boys are encouraged to grow in confidence and resilience, while still enjoying the warmth, kindness and comfort that feels like home.
At the centre of it all is a dedicated team who know and care for each boy. Houseparents Mr and Mrs Loader, our Assistant Boarding Housemaster, resident House Tutor and team of Matrons work together to create a nurturing environment where boys feel safe, supported and known. It is this sense of belonging, and the relationships built within it, that stays firmly with boys as they move onto the Upper School.

The Benefits of Boarding
Dedicated Study Support
Supported, dedicated homework time every evening
Boarding at Eagle House offers boys a unique academic advantage. Each evening, 45 minutes of dedicated prep (homework) time gives boys the space and structure to complete their homework without distractions. This is not just quiet study, it is guided learning.
Our caring Eagle House Team, including our Houseparents, Assistant Housemaster and live-in Tutor, is always on hand to offer expert advice, gentle guidance and encouragement. Visiting teachers and our Sixth Formers also drop in regularly, and boys often help each other too, creating a supportive atmosphere where learning is positive and rewarding.
This approach helps boys build good habits and confidence from an early age, without pressure, just steady, reassuring support every step of the way. With all homework done at Eagle House, families can enjoy calm, uninterrupted evenings together. No homework stress, no battles, just quality time.
A wealth of activities and opportunities
More time for boys to enjoy a fuller, richer school life
With no daily commute or need to travel between locations, boarders have more time to enjoy the things they love. Boarding at Eagle House gives them access to an exceptional range of school clubs and activities. Sport, music, creative arts, outdoor adventures and more are all just steps from where they live.
There’s plenty of time to unwind too. Whether they’re playing games in the common room, heading outside for a kick-about or discovering a new interest, boys can shape their own week with the support and guidance of the Eagle House team. Weekly screen-free nights with games, quizzes and fun challenges are also popular with the boys. These help them build stronger friendships, develop social skills and, most importantly, enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood.
Weekends are full of energy as well, with a busy programme of activities and trips. From go‑karting and climbing to Ninja Warrior-style adventures, there’s always something exciting on offer alongside all important downtime.
Brotherhood and belonging
Nurturing deep friendships, shared adventures and a real sense of belonging
Boarding fosters a strong sense of brotherhood and belonging as boys share experiences, learn alongside friends and support one another through the ups and downs of school life. These shared moments build genuine camaraderie and life-long friendships across year groups.
Living together means there’s always someone to talk to, play with, or team up with for a new adventure. At Eagle House, boys learn kindness, cooperation and respect—values that help them grow as individuals and contribute to their academic success and personal confidence and, therefore, success in later life.
With friends from around the globe, boys also develop a broader view of the world, gaining understanding and respect for different cultures, and an enriching international perspective.
Growing as Individuals
Gently encouraging independence in a safe, caring environment
In Eagle House, boys learn to manage their time, look after their belongings and consider others, all with plenty of guidance and reassurance from the boarding team around them.
Surrounded by positive role models and friends, they gain confidence and practical life skills at a pace that feels right for them. Parents often notice how quickly their sons become more organised and thoughtful, while still enjoying the carefree fun of childhood.
Skills for the Next Stage
Setting boys up for a confident, seamless transition to the Upper School
By the time boys move up to the Upper School, Eagle House boarders really hit the ground running. They feel ready, not just for the academic challenge, but for the independence that comes with growing up. And because they have learned to live alongside friends, manage their time and balance work with play, they step into the next stage with confidence and enthusiasm.
Family Life and Boarding
The best of both: school and home
We know that balancing busy family schedules can be challenging, and many parents appreciate the flexibility that boarding can offer. Our boarding options are designed with this in mind, giving families the choice that best suits their son and their home life, whether full, weekly, flexi or occasional boarding.
We work closely with families to ensure that boarding is a shared and positive experience for boys, parents and the school. With regular communication and visits warmly encouraged, we build a genuine partnership with you: celebrating your son’s successes, supporting his development and caring for his wellbeing—together.
Boarding also means that time together at home becomes true quality time, free from the pressure of homework, dirty washing and the rush between after‑school commitments.
