Boys, their families, staff and guests all joined together on Saturday 29 June in a sunlit Great Hall for our annual celebration of Speech Day.

As ever, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with our prize winners, but also to reflect on the efforts of all the boys and the myriad of events in which they so enthusiastically and brilliantly take part.

We were delighted to welcome Ian Gilbert, founder of Independent thinking, educational thinker, innovator, entrepreneur, speaker and award-winning editor and writer, as our Guest of Honour to present the prizes and address the school.

Ian Silk, Prep Headmaster, told us, “It was a pleasure to welcome Ian as our Guest of Honour at Speech Day. He spoke brilliantly about the importance of boys being able to think for themselves.”

“The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values.”

W R Inge, three-time Nobel Prize Winner for Literature

He continued, “It was also a pleasure to award so many boys prizes for outstanding academic performance, and effort. Our most prestigious award, the Arthur Tisdall Award, was given to Jack Harte, who has exemplified so many aspects of the school’s values.”

During Speech Day, we also took the opportunity to applaud our Y8 boys and congratulate them on all their years in the Prep School. We wish them every success and many happy years as they move on up to the Upper School.
